Eagle Lake Acadial National Park autumn lake red trees blue sky snow covered hills

Eagle Lake

This picture is taken in October 2003 in Acadia National Park, Maine. I've spent 5 days that fall in Acadia. First day I took pictures from the Cadillac Mountain that you can see on this website. Next day was rain, and the next day, and the next day. For three days I've been watching TV, walking wet streets of Bar Harbor. In the end of October the town was almost empty, stores closing up for winter.
Finally came the last day and it was gorgeous. I've found a spot on the Northern tip of Eagle lake before sunrise. With the first rays of sun I took picture "Morning mist" also on this website. Then I've turned more to the South and took this picture.

This picture is one of my favorites, here all came together. Strong composition created by the shoreline moving from the right side of the picture to the middle and bringing viewer eyes to the double-headed hill in the back of the picture, nice details in the foreground created by the rising sun, snow on the hills, fall colors.

Since I took this picture I've visited Acadia 2 more times. Both times I'd visited the same spot during sunrise trying to take a nice picture and it never worked. All I was able to get was dull ordinary image, nothing like this picture.

The picture taken with Canon 10D 17-40 mm lens, exposure 0.3 s at f/22, focal  length 17 mm, ISO 100.
